Mauritius is not expensive if you know what and where to buy. How locals are living? Electricity with a family of 4, costs Rs 2000 (that's include two Tvs and 2 aircons running at night) Rs 10K is exagerating, not sure what they are doing at night. Water bill costs rs 300.... Food, no need to buy foreign ones, but the local ones etc..

Who lives there? Is it safe at all, or the cafes are abandoned and has junkies or what?

Very good info. From my personal experience a cyclone type 1, 2, or 3, is really not a big deal. Just a lot of clean up afterward. A class 4 is a different story. Out of curiosity, since most cyclones in Mauritius tend to hit east to west, have you noticed a difference in the damages on the east coast versus the west coast?

Short effective all you need to know within 10 min

Having visited the island four times since 2001, I have been in July, August, October and April….on the whole for me it’s the start of their summer is best….not too humid, nice and toasty…..last trip was a few weeks ago, it was very humid, and many flowers were past their best, sea was warm mind, so it’s horses for courses, I would say, it comes down to location, very windy Belle Mare Plage, but much calmer at La Pirogue….if you want cold, miserable wet…then try Curepipe in mid winter…..it is like home from home…..but pleasant in summer…lovely videos, thank you.

This shopping zone has to be taken with care…..the spice shop on the first floor near the umbrella walkway, well….to say we were ripped off would be an understatement…..ok I did haggle to get the price down, but………the best place in my opinion to get real Mauritian Vanille has to be either at the market in Port Louis or up in the market in Curepipe……my father in law went to the Royal College there, back in the late 40’s..

Wow……we actually spent an afternoon at La Bagatelle Mall…..we were shocked at the quality and the prices…..we can but dream of such places in Jersey……to think I live only 14 miles from France and yet it feels like we are on Mars…..why oh why we look up to the UK….beyond me…..the food is incredible……love anything French, their bread in Mauritius is second to none..

Five reasons why we are considering living in Mauritius, albeit for shorter time frames, best of summer in Jersey and then summer in Mauritius…..what’s not to like, and yes it does get humid…….but right now on May 13th, it’s cold, it’s wet and it’s windy……oh and supposed to be BST…..mmmm

I might add, we are lucky to have many relatives in Quatre Bourne…..our plan in four to seven years time is to stay on the island for a few months late in each year, to escape the cold of Jersey…..we think we will rent, though the thought of relocating does interest us….we will see…..love the island, and lucky me, my wife being half Mauritian cooks lots of Mauritian food, as do I…..glad I stumbled upon your excellent site..thank you.

Just back from 10 days in paradise, it was our third time at the hotel, we have a family tradition, my in laws used to visit every year, my father in law was a Mauritian who left the island age 19, became a doctor in the UK…..sadly no longer with us, so last trip was time for me to lay rest some of my ghosts…..I feel that the hotel staff knew this, it was such a wonderful time, the heat was pretty high, but humidity off the scale, we plan to go back in November next year…..it holds such a special place in our hearts, and yes we did speak Kreole …..that was fun, lovely video by yourselves, makes just want to go back, I would conclude and say that this hotel has to be the very best at giving you an incredible relaxed time…brilliant

But in all, cost of living is much cheaper than in US. Good content so I’m subscribing right now
